We first descend a short track to the canal and follow the canal passed the Top Lock Pub and continue along the canal to Johnson Hillocks Locks. Then we turn right and follow the old Lancaster Canal to its end, at the road we turn right onto Town Lane and follow it back to the Leeds/Liverpool canal. We then rejoin the canal and follow it back to the Top Lock pub. We then leave the canal and follow Kenyon Lane passed the small boat yard and slightly uphill to Lower Wheelton Village. We then turn left at the war memorial and rejoin Whins Lane which takes us back to the start.
