News from past General Meetings

October 2025

In October we once again was visited by Frances Rafferty. This time she was talking about 'Unmentionables' A history of underwear. Frances had many different examples of underwear over the ages and explained how the invention of the sewing machine by Mr Singer made such a difference to clothing manufacturing. There was much merriment and reminiscing as those of us of mature age though about the 'liberty bodice' we were made to wear when younger. An excellent talk as usual by Frances and greatly enjoyed by the audience.

We have booked Frances again for our April Meeting when she is going to talk about the History of Hats. She is currently making a number of hats for this talk and expects to bring approximately 30 hats as part of the talk. Definitely a date for the diary.
