The Local History Group covers topics related to Chorley and the area surrounding the town up to 1.5 hours away. We have a speaker at each meeting and usually there is some time for questions and discussion. All members of Chorley u3a are considered members of this group. Currently meetings cost £2 to attend.

We normally don't meet in April, August or December, but if a Bank Holiday falls on the 4th Monday of the month, a General Meeting will be held instead. The June meeting involves a local walking treasure hunt followed by refreshments. In November or January, whichever is closest to Christmas, we try to look at some local traditions and stories.

Monday 16th February 13.30 St George's Hall, Halliwell Street.

Lavinia Todd will deliver her talk entitled Rags to Riches. This is about the Grant Brothers who came from Scotland to Ramsbottom. Dickens used them as inspiration for the Cheeryble Brothers in Nicholas Nickleby. Lavinia has spoken to us before about the 7 Robert Peels and her talk was very well received. This one sounds most interesting.

Well I Never Knew That! A talk about "celebrities" who have local connections. Did you know Kathleen Ferrier had Chorley connections?

In April there will be no meeting but we have a trip to Fulneck and Saltaire Villages which is open to all.
