The Poetry Appreciation group comes together fortnightly to read, enjoy and discuss poems. We are open to everyone, from keen poetry readers to beginners who would like to learn more about the art. We are very flexible in structure, with participants free to contribute as much or as little as they like. We attempt avoiding having deep academic discussions!
We look at poems from different eras and at the ways poets use words, rhymes, rhythms, and other techniques to express and communicate their ideas. If necessary, we will explore the historical context for the work, but only if it is of assistance in understanding what the poet was trying to achieve.
This year we are looking at poets alphabetically, trying to discover new names as we progress.
So, if you already know or have wanted to find out what the fuss is all about for names such as Blake, Eliot, Larkin, Shelley, Auden, Rossetti, Browning, Duffy, Armitage, etc, come along and discover the possibilities of language and different ways to interpret aspects of life.
We charge £2.00 per session to cover costs of hiring the room, tea and coffee.

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at the St George Church Hall, Chorley. I usually send out a copy of the poems we will be discussing a week or so before the session, to give everyone the opportunity to read and think about them.
If you would like to attend, please contact me and I can email you the poems.
